This blog, written by Andrew Collins, couldn’t have come at a more apt moment.
It talks about people being exploited in the media industry, being asked to provide their services for free.
I know you will find it interesting. It is a tough one… it is no surprise that the Vocal Booth Weekender was built on DJs playing for free, it still has a massive contingent of DJs that come and play for no money at all. Are you one of them ?
I have been asked 4 times recently to do radio shows for people, as soon as I’ve asked for some kind of money the talks fell down, only this morning I have been approached to do another radio show. I don’t get paid for doing the Vocal Booth Radio Show (as such.. I guess it could be seen as promotion for the VBW) but that’s my choosing.
Anyway, I could ramble on.
Andrew Collins explains it better than I would. Read my comment at the bottom and feel free to come back here and comment (please).

Good read. Too many DJs prepared to sell tickets for lazy promoters and not even get paid. It’s a shame things have changed so much in the last few years. I stopped selling myself short years ago and got a bit disillusioned with it
