3 hours of vinyl heat, quite literally. No more to say. I’m shagged.
One of Birmingham’s best known soulful house DJs and a true legend of the mid 90s talks about his musical history around the UK and beyond. Containing some pretty outstanding music, I talk to Patrick about how he was possibly THE biggest influence in my own journey and we have one or two hysterical moments of disagreement regarding the timeline.
After listening back to check it all flows properly (I only added music, none of the talk is edited), what’s clear is that this is as close to a gay love story you’ll ever get between two hetrosexual men. I cried at the end of it.
It’s a great day. England had a record of a day in the World Cup and I played some killer records. Listen to this one… I think it will make you happy.
Today’s 4 hour extravaganza features a little chat live in the studio with Neil Pierce, taking advantage of having him in the area, plus over 3 hours of great music, non-stop in the mix back to back with Patrick Smoove.
Wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday so there will be no show posted. Read this post if you are at all interested as to why. Thanks.
This week we go in the mix for an hour, giving you music and a story of what happened when I put together a demo mix for Space Ibiza in 1999. I hope you had/are having a great bank holiday in the UK and send love to all friends worldwide. Last weekend I played a Soul Central track that reminded me of the show I did with Timmy, coincidentally, 6 years ago in May 2012. Here is a link to listen to the show on Soundcloud. It features lots of behind the scenes stories of how we started working and how we made Strings of Life and all the successes and failures since. It’s a good listen if you’ve only….
I jumped on the decks just as the Royal Wedding kicked off and recorded 2 hours of pretty decent music, if I do say so myself. ZERO chat on the mic apart from a 20 second intro, this may be a keeper? http://media.blubrry.com/andyward/p/djandyward.net/appmixes/AndyWard_SaturdayMixUp_May18.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | Download (270.2MB) Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | Email | RSS Send article as PDF
Clearly inspired by The VB Family, this is an edit of the Sister Sledge classic that I added some drums and the legendary acapella from Roland Clarke. I dropped it at SPW on the main stage and it works really well, but you need some balls to play it as the breakdown goes on forever.
