On the Edge

The new Soul Central track is finished, and it’s a big one !

Started over in Brum a few weeks ago in Timmy’s gaff, we knew we were onto something tasty from the off.
I came in with the brief of wanting to make a more stripped track, solely for the dance floor and purely to satisfy my own selfish need of wanting a hypnotic hook with simplistic drums.  We spent a good few hours working on some different chords and progressions and both felt we had nailed it.  We also started a more soulful number which will get revisited at some point.
We were so pleased with the result of the two days we worked on the track, it was decided that he should come to Spain to mix it at Josh’s.  There were nuances within the track that only Tim would be able to communicate to Josh and also we had a great excuse for some wild times.  On Monday ‘The Vegas’ landed in Alicante and the jokes began.
We headed to Murcia and after a cheeky beer and some tapas the work began.
You already know how highly I regard Josh’s engineering skills so I was excited at getting the two of them together to bring our track to life… and boy.. did they do that !
As is no surprise, the original hypnotic idea I had hoped for morphed into a main room banger.  The piano throughout the track will more than likely annoy many who listen to it in the cold light of day, and yet we KNOW that this tune, with the breakdown that goes on forever, WILL destroy nightclubs around the world.
In the words of Timmy “Don’t call it a comeback !”  We laughed and joked about all the ‘what ifs?’ but I am just happy we got the track to where it is now.
Time will tell if anything big comes of the track, release wise, but I am over the moon with the results and also happy that we captured the vibe of the whole escapade in this very unofficial and yet oh-s0-true-to-life promo video.  If you are feeling it, please give it a retweet or a mention on your wall/blog.
This morning Josh collected Tim from me and they head off into the mountains to make some crossover tracks together.  They can stick that up their arses.. I don’t have the energy for that anymore but I am sure they are going to create a monster.  You heard it here first.
I miss him already.
p.s – If you think you can make this track work for you on a dance floor (not in your bedroom) then we may consider letting off a cheeky edit of it.  Holler.
